Cat has Returned now what? |

Your cat has been located and is now safe back in your home- what do you do now?
Your cat will be in shock. She should be ravenous, but only feed her a small amount. Make sure she has water. Put her in a dark, quiet room where she can decompress from her adventure.
If you see visible signs of injury, wounds, swellings, if she has fever then get her straightaway to the vet. But if she appears to be okay besides just being shaky, hold off taking her to the vet. She doesn't need any more stress at the moment. Keep her away from any of your other cats, until she has been vet-checked. Unless you see worrisome signs for her, such as not eating, bloody diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy or any other sign she is off, wait a few days before taking her to the vet. If you see anything that alarms you take her in quickly.
Once you take her in, have her tested for all known diseases (even if she has had her vaccinations) just to play it safe. Let the vet know the cat has been outside, and for how long. He may tell you to keep her quarantined for x amount of days to be sure she doesn't have a contagious disease.
Keep her secluded if necessary and then just gradually let her back into the main part of the house. Sometimes, depending on what they experienced out in the world, you will see behavior changes in your cat. Just give her your patience and love, and the two of you can work through anything that comes up. |
